The water side is where this usually starts

An ice module is a small refrigeration job bolted onto a plumbing job, and the plumbing half gets rebuilt every time a kitchen is. A thin supply line run decades ago, pinched behind a new cabinet, feeding a valve slowly closing up with mineral deposit: none of that appears on a panel, and all of it appears in the bin. Sub-Zero is blunt about the symptom — cubes that come out small or hollow point at low water pressure rather than at the machine that froze them.

So the supply gets measured before the harvest does. It takes minutes, it costs nothing, and it settles whether the conversation is about a valve or about a module.

What the air off the water reaches

Salt does not attack the cold parts. It works on the dry ones — screws, the fan bracket, the sheet metal in the machine bay — slowly enough that nothing announces itself. A fan bearing that has spent ten years in damp, salted air turns stiff before it turns noisy, and a stiff fan is a warm cabinet nobody has diagnosed yet.

The condenser is the other one, and the remedy is the same everywhere: keep it clear. The maker allows six months to a year between condenser cleanings, and a house with animals sits at the short end of that. It warns against bending the aluminium fins or reaching for chemical cleaners. Two blocks from the sand, the short end of that interval is the sensible one.

Compact kitchens, close quarters

Drawers and undercounter units here are built into runs with a counter above and cabinetry either side, which leaves one path for warm air to leave the bay and no margin if that path is blocked. Before anything expensive is proposed, the air arriving at the grille gets a reading of its own.
