What the display is actually telling you
The number on a wine cabinet’s panel is the number it has been asked to hold, not the number the bottles are at; Sub-Zero says as much in its own service guidance. Finding the real figure is slower and worth the wait. Stand a thermometer in a glass of water, put the glass midway between the racks and midway front to back, and leave it half a day before looking. Water moves with the bottles; air moves with the door.
A good many of these calls end right there, with a cabinet holding exactly what it was set to in a room that had convinced everybody otherwise. Nobody is charged for a repair that was never needed.
What the coast does to a machine bay
A wine cabinet rejects its heat through a coil at floor level, usually into whatever air the room has. Air here carries salt, and salt works on the dry metal in that bay: the fan bracket, the screws, the shaft the blade turns on. It does not fail suddenly. It gets tight, then slow, then noisy, and the compartment runs a degree or two warmer through each stage.
Keeping the coil clear buys back most of that margin. Sub-Zero asks for a cleaning every six to twelve months, says plainly that chemical cleaners are neither necessary nor recommended, and warns against bending the aluminium fins while you are in there.

The coast road is the only way in for much of this stretch, and driveways run long and gated above it. Where the van can park and who opens the gate are settled when the visit is booked, because that conversation is cheaper on the phone than at the kerb.
