Sub-Zero Service in Glendale
A large city pressed against the hills, holding everything from pre-war bungalows to towers along the boulevard. The refrigeration is as mixed as the housing, and the older cabinets in it still carry a dial where a newer one carries a display.

| Local condition | What ages faster because of it | If it is the part |
|---|---|---|
| A setting turned down in the heat | Sub-Zero asks for a full day before a new setting has arrived, so the same evening proves nothing either way | |
| A dial control rather than a panel | The maker's guidance for those is a dial set between four and six, with one the warmest and ten the coldest | |
| A panel wound colder than 38°F | That is the figure Sub-Zero recommends, and going below it is not the repair people are hoping it will be | |
| A cabinet that fails the reading anyway | Then it is the coil, the fan and the air path in that order, with gauges only once those come back clean | $1,400–$2,960 |
The dial, the day and the recommended setting — three checks that cost nothing at all. Sub-Zero Appliance Repair Los Angeles measures a compartment before it prices one — (310) 496-7399, $89 for the call, credited against the work you approve.
Ranges cover parts and labour on this company's own price bands; the $89 service call is separate until you approve the work, and then it is not.
Turning it down is not a repair
The instinct when a compartment feels warm is to ask for more cold, and it is almost always the wrong move. Sub-Zero names 38°F as the recommended setting on an electronic control panel and asks for twenty-four hours before any new setting is judged — which means the evening you changed it tells you nothing, and the colder number you left it on will not be reached any sooner for having been demanded.
On the older cabinets that still use a dial rather than a display, the same guidance says to set the dial between four and six, one being the warmest and ten the coldest. Winding it to ten does not fix a cabinet that cannot hold six.
Where the free checks stop
After the setting, there are still things to look at that cost nothing. Whether the door is closing properly, or whether something on a shelf is holding it a few millimetres off. Whether a compartment is packed hard enough to block the vents it is being cooled through. Whether the grille at the bottom is clear enough for air to get in and out at all. A cabinet failing on any of those is a cabinet with nothing wrong with it.
When the gauges are justified
Once the free list is exhausted, the order stops being optional. Air arriving at the condenser, air leaving it, the fan drawing what it should, the compartment measured against what the control was asked for — that sequence rules out the inexpensive faults one at a time. Only when it comes back clean do gauges go on the circuit, because reading the sealed system is the last step in the process rather than the first, and nobody should be quoting one over the phone.

Our 1990s built-in came with the house and nobody else wanted to touch it. He found a failed defrost thermostat and a filthy condenser, sorted both, left the readings on paper. Booking took two tries.

Cubes came out hollow and cloudy and collapsed in a glass of water. The harvest cycle was stalling halfway. He rebuilt the module and flushed the line. Right now, but the first visit ran late.

Up the canyon a condenser fills with dust faster than anyone believes, and ours was creeping up every afternoon while the display insisted it was fine. Coils cleaned properly, a tired condenser fan motor replaced, and the temperature stopped wandering.

Ring while it is still misbehaving
A fault described as it happens is worth more than a fault remembered: the shelf reading, the noise, the number on the panel. Catch it live and the visit begins somewhere in the middle rather than at the start.
