Panel-ready is a labour question, not a parts one

A panelled column is the same machine as a stainless one with a joiner’s door bolted to it. That door has weight, it has alignment, and it usually matches a run of cabinetry that will show any error of a millimetre or two. Taking it off is straightforward; putting it back so the line still reads straight is the part that takes the time.

It is worth saying because it is the one place a repair bill here differs from the same repair somewhere else, and it is labour rather than anything anybody sells you.

Reading the whole kitchen

With four or five separate circuits in a house, a single warm compartment tells you about that compartment and nothing else. The freezer column holding perfectly is not evidence about the fresh-food column beside it; they share a kitchen and a power supply and nothing else that matters.

So a probe goes into every cooling cabinet on a first visit and the readings are written down. A fan that has slowed rather than stopped shows up as a compartment running two or three degrees warm — nothing a panel will ever flag, and the cheapest thing on this list to put right while somebody is already here.

When it is genuinely the sealed system

Occasionally it is. Every compartment warm at once, the compressor running and the coil cold in the wrong places is a different conversation, and it is the one case where no figure gets quoted before the gauges have been on. Anyone naming a sealed-system price down the phone is guessing.
